ParentChild+ is an evidence-based school readiness model that preempts the achievement gap by providing young children and their parents with learning tools and skills. PC+ is a free program for eligible Boston families with children 16 months through 36 months (3 years). The program is based on these four pillars:
Reaching families where they are:
Families with young children receive twice-weekly home visits to support healthy development and educational success.
Building trust:
Early Learning Specialists (ELS) build positive relationships with parents and help parents realize their role as their children’s first and most important teacher. Parents learn how to promote school readiness using the books, toys and materials provided at no cost to the family.
Promoting parent-child interaction:
Early Learning Specialists provide families with high quality learning tools and guidance to strengthen parent-child verbal interaction, develop language, early literacy, social-emotional skills, and reading and play activities in the home.
Facilitating strong community connections:
Early Learning Specialists become trusted advisors, connecting families to other community resources including food, housing, BFEN sites, medical, and educational services.
