BFEN Parent Leadership Model

Our citywide peer-to-peer Parent Leadership model is the backbone of the Boston Family Engagement Network. BFEN Parent Leaders/ Parent Partners are parents of young children birth to eight and are integral to the work of the Neighborhood Centers.

  • Parent Partners work in the neighborhoods they reside in, and are reflective of each neighborhood’s unique linguistically and culturally diverse population. Parent Partners are the voice of the community, representing the needs of the families and setting the direction of the BFEN programming.
  • Family Nurturing Center provides ongoing professional development opportunities to Parent Partners to build their skills and to support them in their roles as ASQ developmental screeners, Welcome Baby visitors, playgroup facilitators, and outreach. Parent Partners serve their community by reaching out to families, facilitating Family Cafes, lending a listening ear, assisting families with concrete needs and referring parents to community resources they may need to promote their family’s’ wellbeing.
  • BFEN fosters parents’ move from engaging with children as a child’s first teacher, to partnering with staff to shape programs and services, to influencing systems and policies in their community.
